Pati non โรงคั่วกาแฟบ้านแม่กลางหลวง is a cafe that feels deeply tied to its mountainous surroundings in Ban Luang, Chom Thong District. Reaching it involves a bit of an adventurous trek or a scooter ride along winding rural roads, making the arrival almost part of the experience itself. Located at the heart of a coffee plantation, this spot meshes the quiet pace of countryside life with a hands-on connection to the land and the craft of coffee production.

This cafe is a destination for those who appreciate coffee beyond the everyday cup. Guests can sample freshly roasted beans and unique local brews including their signature Patinon Coffee and butterfly pea flower tea, both of which reflect the natural resources and traditional flavors of the region. The inclusion of tea tastings alongside coffee shows a thoughtful nod to local agricultural diversity, and visitors often enjoy sitting down with these drinks after a long hike through the surrounding hills and rice fields.

The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, with an emphasis on community and craftsmanship. The owners and local farmers who run the place are genuinely passionate about refining coffee quality, hoping to elevate Northern Thailand's profile in the specialty coffee scene. This intention is evident in how guests are invited to taste and learn about different brews, often accompanied by vegan bowls or traditional dishes like tom ka gai and ข้าวแกง, which tie the cafe’s menu to regional flavors.

Ideal for mid to late mornings or early afternoons after outdoor exploration, the cafe offers a cool retreat with views of the verdant landscape. It attracts a mix of travelers seeking something off the usual tourist path, local volunteers involved in community projects, and coffee lovers curious about Thailand’s evolving coffee culture. Handwoven blankets and scarves available for purchase add another layer of local craftsmanship to the visit, connecting visitors with the talents and stories from this mountain village.

If you find yourself heading into the highlands near Chiang Mai and want a pause from the usual city cafes, Pati non provides a chance to taste coffee in a setting that honors both the hard work behind the beans and the quiet beauty of rural life. The relaxed vibe here encourages lingering over a cup, watching clouds roll over rice terraces, and enjoying conversations with family-run hosts who are as much a part of the experience as the coffee itself.

It’s really cool. First time walking down such a difficult route!! Love it and love the people here. I wanna go back to volunteer teaching English or something. Really need to go back to buy antie scarf. She takes like 5 days to complete one. Which costs us like 2 bowls of noodles, and it’s her 5 days work omg. Definitely need to go back to get the scarfs she sells lol

As our tour guide explained the local farmers are trying to transform their life to plant specialties like coffee, tea, strawberries. Upon arrival, we were greeted with different pots of coffee, tea, and other drinks. I love their flower tea. It tastes so natural and clean. Great atmosphere to sit down with friends after long hiking and seeing the rice field. They also have hand woven blanket and aromatic candles.

Great 1. Coffee & Tea 2. Conversation 3. View & vibes 4. English P Non is a very friendly and passionate coffee enthusiast. He let me try 2 types of tea, and 3 roasts of coffee (light, medium, dark) for free as part of a guided tour. I found the tea quite interesting and quite calming. I also enjoyed the dark roast. More than anything I really enjoyed my conversation with P Non as I got to learn more about the local coffee industry and even see some of the experiments he was running to find new coffee flavors. The coffee shop also has a nice hammock with a great view of the village, especially nice during sunset.

Super friendly hard working people. I came by myself and not with a tour group and they still offered a free sample of their coffee and tea. Parking can be super tough. There are limited spots and the road is very narrow. They have a small souvenir store with coffee beans and soaps.

They had medium-roast coffee, cascara tea, “five queens” herbal tea, and butterfly pea flower decoction grown locally for us to sample. The guide explained each beverage very well. Views are stunning. I bought some of the cascara tea at the gift shop as it was unique and is good for memory!
